The Jean Allenby Weidner Scholarship Fund, based purely on merit, is for students who are dedicated, conscientious and passionate about dance and intend to make a career in dance. Scholarships will be adjudicated by an outside dance professional, and the awards will vary according to the student’s level.
Some scholarships are available to provide financial assistance to talented dance students so that they may further their knowledge of, and abilities in, ballet and other dance forms. And to promote the development of dancers for the EDT. Awards vary according to the students circumstances.
Applications for all scholarships should be submitted with fall registration information by August 1 of each year. Decisions will be made by September 1. Scholarships will be awarded annually and may only be used for tuition. Scholarships-sponsored training cannot be postponed. A student must apply for a new scholarship each year.
Judgments regarding a scholarship or financial assistance award will be based only on dedication and skill and need for financial assistance. EDT Board of Directors reserves the right, upon the advice of the Artistic Director, to cancel any scholarship commitment in the event the student is not making a sincere effort to benefit from the training. The standard application for financial assistance scholarships are available upon request at the EDT offices.
Incentive scholarships are available to encourage male dancers to begin and continue ballet training.
The financial assistance scholarships are available to assist students for whom tuition represents a significant hardship.
Interested students should complete the appropriate application. The artistic director and his staff will review the applications and make their recommendations in regards to the appropriate level of the scholarship, with the approval of the EDT board of directors.
